Historic Environment Record

A probable 2nd century bronze Roman decorative handled bowl, found in the Ilam area in 2003. The County Council manages Staffordshire's Historic Environment Record, a database of over 17,000 archaeological sites and monuments, historic buildings and historic landscapes within the county. The Historic Environment Record also incorporates information on archaeological interventions (such as excavations and surveys) and provides an index to a wide range of sources on the county's historic environment.

The Historic Environment Record can be accessed online via the Heritage Gateway website at http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/gateway/|. Some information is also available through the County Council's LocalView online mapping system at http://localview.staffordshire.gov.uk/lvenvironment/OnTheMap.aspx|.

Requests for more detailed information and for customised or commercial Historic Environment Record searches should be directed to the Historic Environment Record Officer|. We also welcome visitors to carry out research at our offices, although in order to ensure that we can provide access to all relevant information it is recommended that appointments be booked with the Historic Environment Record Officer at least 24 hours in advance.
