A major carriageway in Lichfield has been completely resurfaced, thanks to a £1,150,000 highways improvement scheme.
The project, which started in June, saw Staffordshire County Council’s crews reconstruct the A5127 Birmingham Road between the junctions of St John Street and Green Hill.
In addition to resurfacing the full width of the carriageway, highways crews also replaced ironwork and kerbs, repaired drainage and refreshed road markings.
The work took just under seven weeks to complete.
Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:
“I am so pleased to see another major road scheme completed and want to thank everyone for their patience throughout the works.
“Birmingham road is very well used so, with the new surface, I’m sure road users in Lichfield will notice a real difference in their journeys.
“We understand that good roads are important to keep the county connected, which is why we are investing an extra £50 million in highways over the next three years.”
Earlier this year, the county council announced a year-long plan to double down on fixing more roads, following rising reports of road defects.
This means nearly £8 million will be invested in getting potholes repaired more quickly, tackling drainage issues and reducing the number of defects in the system.
This is in addition to the £53 million being spent on a range of major projects, vital road improvements and general road maintenance in 24/25.
