Pregnancy: Who can help me? - Health visitors

Health Visitors work with parents and carers. They offer support from the ante-natal period until the child starts school at five years.

The service includes a team of:

  • Health Visitors
  • School Nurses
  • Staff Nurses
  • Nursery Nurses and
  • Parent Support workers.

They work with families to help support children’s health and development. This is to make sure they have the best possible start in life. Alongside the routine care you receive from your midwife you can also speak to a Health Visitor. They can provide advice and support on your transition to parenthood. This may include:

  • questions or support about your mental health or your partner’s mental health,
  • advice around preparing for your baby’s arrival or
  • ways to promote your baby’s health and development.

You as parents/carers know your child better than anyone. As your child grows and develops you will soon start to notice many changes. Their experiences of their first 2 years of life will help set the foundations for their future.
