Terms and conditions - School Transport

  1. The returned results are based upon current legislation, county council school transport policy, road network, school network, school locations and age ranges, catchment areas and property location held at the time and date of my enquiry. They make no reference to the availability of a place at that school.

  2. A result showing an entitlement is not a formal agreement to provide travel assistance as you will still need to submit an application.

  3. In accordance with the county councils home to school travel policy, this service assesses eligibility for free travel assistance to the geographically nearest or catchment area school only.  This service will not provide guidance on entitlement to travel assistance to an out of county school, on low-income grounds, due to special educational needs, or a disability or mobility problem, or if eligible as it is the nearest school with a place. For these circumstances you should consult the education transport policy for more information on eligibility and make an application for travel assistance providing information to support that request with your application.

  4. Advice regarding entitlement to travel assistance as a result of your enquiry is only valid for pupils in Reception to the end of Year 11 (a separate policy applies for post-16 pupils).

  5. That entitlement to travel assistance for a pupil is no guarantee that future applicants will also be entitled.

  6. The checker measures the distance using the Ordnance Survey Highways data. The route measured will start at the location of the property as determined by the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and will end at the point on the road network nearest to the gate of the school. Where gate information isn't available for a school, the school address will be used. The measurement is taken along the centre of the road and only includes those footpaths which are included in the Highways data set.

  7. Parents may choose to use their own alternative walking route, however it is the shortest available walking route calculated by Staffordshire County Council which will be used to determine entitlement to free travel assistance. Please note: we will use the shortest calculated walking route to determine nearest schools, and the shortest calculated available walking route to determine if travel assistance should be provided.
