People are being advised to plan their journey if heading away for Christmas or New Year with busy roads expected and some rail engineering work scheduled.
Thursday and Friday are expected to be the busiest days for travel with many people making the final commute before Christmas at the same time as people travel away for the holiday period.
Motorists travelling in and around Staffordshire can use the Roadzwork app, which was piloted in Staffordshire and has now been rolled out nationally. It can help people avoid roadworks and other incidents on their local, regular routes by informing them before they set out.
People can also check the Roadworks.org website, which has all of the latest traffic information. Staffordshire is one of many councils and utility companies which now feeds all of its works information into www.roadworks.org meaning people can view the latest updates across the county and nationally.
In addition to planning journeys in advance, motorists are being urged to check vehicle and tyre conditions before they head out on the roads to ensure they’re travelling safely.
Anyone using the train over the festive period should check for engineering works and altered services. All train company service changes can be found at

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said:
As we head towards the weekend we expect it will be extremely busy on the roads with some disruption to train services.
If main routes like the M6 and A38 are congested, this can displace traffic onto other county roads.
We’re advising people to plan their journeys in advance this week and into the weekend. By accessing live travel updates we’d hope that people can remove some of the stresses of travelling and can enjoy Christmas and the New Year.”
