People across Staffordshire are being invited to nominate carers, work colleagues, friends and family members for a prestigious award.

The Staffordshire Dignity in Care Awards, now in their fifth year, recognise groups and individuals who care for the most vulnerable amongst us with dignity and compassion.

The Awards, which launched on  ‘Dignity Action Day’ on 1 February, are open to those who work in the care sector as well as informal and young carers.

There are seven award categories this year, including Dignity Champion, Leadership Award, Young Dignity Champion and Informal Carer of the Year.

Michelle Dale, Registered Manager at Burley Heights, whose staff team won the community award in 2018 said:

“Winning a dignity award last year was brilliant and helped us to celebrate the achievements of both the service users and the staff. It also showed the team just what a huge difference the work they do really makes.

“The whole celebration day is a wonderful event where we all get to hear some amazing stories and share best practice ideas that benefit the whole community. We’ll certainly be entering again this year and I would encourage other companies to do the same.”

Kathryn Little, Manager of Horninglow Bungalows in Burton, whose staff also won a Community Organisation Award stated:

“The staff and tenants at Horninglow Bungalows were thrilled to win their award in last year’s celebrations. It meant so much to know that the continued hard work and dedication of the staff and tenants was recognised. I’m incredibly proud of the staff and hope that winning the award helps them realise what an amazing job they do every day.”

Ron and Julie Jeffries from Allan House and Oaklea House added:

“We were extremely proud to have won the Dignity Award for the Leadership category in 2018. It’s a fantastic and inspiring event to recognise all the amazing work that happens locally in the sector.”

Alan White, Deputy Leader at Staffordshire County Council and Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing said:

“Our Dignity in Care Awards give us a great opportunity to celebrate and thank the thousands of carers who do a wonderful job, always going that extra mile for the people they look after.

“The awards have been a huge success since we launched them back in 2014. It was also encouraging to see the Care Quality Commission referencing the awards within their reports on some local Outstanding Care Homes and the positive impact they have had on staff. So, if you know a brilliant carer, dedicated young carer or a great care company then please get them nominated”.

This year’s awards are also running alongside a major recruitment campaign to encourage more people to join the adult social care sector. People can find out more on the  Every day is different website

Nominating for a Dignity in Care Award is quick and easy and can be done on our Dignity in Care webpages or by calling 01785 355795. The closing date for nominations is 30th April 2019.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to the awards ceremony on 10 July 2019 at Newcastle under Lyme College.
