People interested in Staffordshire’s Great War legacy are invited to find out more at a free event.
The Great War conference, entitled ‘Reflections’ will explore the county’s role during the war, covering aspects including the role of women, community remembrance, The Public Commemoration of the Great War Centenary, and the latest research on Cannock Chase.
The day will bring together professionals and local history groups to share their findings, and historians will consider the legacy and how lives changed for ever for those who served on the front line and those on the Home Front.
Guest speakers including Professor Karen Hunt of Keele University and Professor Stephen Badsey of University of Wolverhampton will also be sharing their research and thoughts about different aspects of the war.
Gill Heath, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:
“Staffordshire played an important role during the Great War, from the half a million men trained on Cannock Chase to the work of those who remained on the home front doing their bit for the war effort. Our free conference is a great opportunity for people to find out more about how the war affected the county, and to meet other local history groups and hear about their own research projects.”
