City centre island junction set to undergo improvements

Work to improve the road surface on a main road island junction in Lichfield city centre will take place this Sunday, March 17.
One side of the Friary island will be resurfaced, with works being completed on the day. The eastern side of the island is being resurfaced and all traffic travelling in a south-easterly direction will be diverted. Vehicles travelling in a north-westerly direction will not be affected.
The £65,000 scheme will improve one of the busiest routes into Lichfield city centre. Work will begin at 7.30am and is scheduled to be completed by 10pm. Diversion routes around the area will be signposted.
Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Helen Fisher said:
“The Friary island is one of the busiest routes into Lichfield city centre and so we want to ensure the road surface is well maintained. We are carrying out this major improvement scheme on a Sunday to ensure there is no disruption during the working week. We would like to thank people in advance for their patience while work takes place.”
