Great Staffordshire musicians past and present are to be lauded as part of the 2019 Staffordshire Day programme, through a new online playlist.

Tying in with the theme of this year’s celebrations, the Made in Staffordshire playlist has been set up on music streaming site Spotify by Destination Staffordshire, and features world-famous rockers Motorhead and Deep Purple, and pop star Robbie Williams.

There is room for dancefloor classics from Altern 8 and Bizarre Inc, blues from Climax Blues Band, and newer artists like Stone DJ Seb Wildblood, and Newcastle-under-Lyme songwriter Dan Croll.

Philip Atkins, Leader at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“We have a lot to shout about here in Staffordshire, and over the last three years we’ve used ‘Staffordshire Day’ on 1 May to tell the world what a wonderful place it is to live in and visit.

“Alongside this year’s events and activities, brand new for this year is the Made in Staffordshire playlist on Spotify.

“We’re incredibly lucky to have so many musical legends with local connections and this year we’ll be celebrating their music.

“So whether you like rock icon Lemmy from Motorhead, world-famous pop star Robbie Williams, or the 90s dance tunes of Bizarre Inc, make sure you download the playlist and tune in on Staffordshire Day.”

The public is now being encouraged to get in touch with their own suggestions, by emailing info@enjoystaffordshire.com or tweeting @enjoystaffs, or follow the playlist on Spotify and add tracks directly.

The playlist can be found by searching for Made in Staffordshire on Spotify, and it is available for streaming and download, making it easier to listen on the move.

Richard Swancott, Digital Marketing Executive from Destination Staffordshire, said:

“There are some big names in Staffordshire music who have sold millions of records around the world, but we want to give less well-known artists a platform too.

“So if you make your own music, or know someone who does, get in touch with us or add them to the playlist.”

The playlist can be found by searching for Made in Staffordshire on Spotify, and it is available for streaming and download, making it easier to listen on the move.

Coordinated by Destination Staffordshire and supported by Staffordshire County Council and other local authorities, Staffordshire Day takes place on Wednesday 1st May and features a ten-day programme of events across the county.

The theme, Made in Staffordshire, is intended to throw the spotlight on the county’s manufacturing heritage, as well as the music, films, and memories made here.

In 2018, over 60,000 people attended Staffordshire Day events, generating over £1m for the county economy, while many also supported on social media, with more than 5,700 tweets including the #StaffordshireDay hashtag.

Details of this year’s programme are available on the Enjoy Staffordshire website.
