Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter Racecourse

As Staffordshire prepares to host The Marston’s 61 Deep Midlands Grand National over the weekend, people are being reminded to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

This Saturday (16 March) will see thousands of visitors descend on the county for the 50th Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

With the roads and traffic expected to be busier than usual, drivers are being reminded to plan their travel arrangements early and take extra care on the roads.

Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:

“The Midlands Grand National is always a spectacular event that showcases the best of the county and provides an important boost to local businesses and the tourism sector.

“With around 16,000 visitors expected on the day we know our roads are going to be much busier than normal, so I would remind people to plan their journeys ahead and allow themselves plenty of time to get there.”

The Midlands Grand National is one of the most colourful and spectacular days out on the regions sporting calendar and the second largest steeplechase in the UK, after the Aintree Grand National. The event is estimated to generate around £1m for the local economy and this year is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Train operators will also be putting on extra services during the day and passengers can find out more on the East Midlands Trains website
