People in Tamworth are invited to Glascote library to view a new exhibition and children’s theatre performance created during three arts residencies in 3 different libraries.
In the autumn, local communities took part in a series of creative activities that inspired professional artists to produce a piece of work which will be shown for the first time on Monday 3 June.
The event will include work by artists Ruth Singer, Michaela McMillan and a performance for children by the New Vic Theatre. A film made by West Midlands based filmmaker Geoff Broadway will also show footage of each residency which explored how libraries are becoming actively creative spaces.
The exhibition is part of Libraries Live, a 3 county partnership project between Staffordshire, Warwickshire & Leicestershire County Library Services, supported by Arts Council England Lottery Fund.
Gill Heath, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:
“This is a wonderful project which has given local communities the opportunity to take part in quality arts and cultural experiences in their local libraries.
“Getting people interested in the arts and involved in the project has also given them a real insight into the positive impact volunteering has to offer in the community. It was great to see so many families joining in, and they should all be very proud of the artwork they have helped to produce.”
In Staffordshire, Glascote Library volunteers worked with the New Vic Theatre to engage younger children using theatre techniques to explore stories in the library and bring them to life through fun-filled interactive sessions.
The New Vic have created a new piece of theatre which will be further performed at libraries for young children, families, local school and nursery groups to enjoy.
The event, from 10am until 2pm, will also include Free arts and crafts activities.
