The A34 Foregate Street junction looking into Madford Retail Park.
People and businesses will be able to find out more about the Stafford Western Access Route at a public event with construction work set to start in the summer.
The new road will enable millions of pounds worth of new housing and business development to take place. It will also improve traffic flow in the town centre, particularly by the railway station.
It will link the A34 Foregate Street at Madford Retail Park to the A518 Newport Road Castlefields junction. The road will help improve traffic flow in Gaol Square, Newport Road (east of Kingsway), Station Road, Chell Road, A34 Foregate Street (south of the scheme) and Doxey Road.
A public information event takes place at the Conservative Association in Castle Street, Stafford, on Monday June 3 between 2pm and 7pm. There will be information on all aspects of the scheme as well as visuals and the chance to ask the project team any questions.
The scheme will include improved conditions for bus services, pedestrians and cyclists. There will also be environmental benefits through the redevelopment of areas of derelict land and landscaping along the route.
Staffordshire County Council’s economic growth leader Mark Winnington said:
The Stafford Western Access Route is an essential part of Stafford’s ambitious growth plans. It will enable future development contained in the borough’s local plan – notably the delivery of thousands of new homes and business, office and retail space. It will also reduce congestion in the town centre, particularly around the railway station.
We’re now looking forward to construction work getting under way in the summer and hope people will come along to the public information day on Monday June 3 to find out more about the scheme.”
The road is being funded by developers and with £16.1million secured by the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Enterprise Partnership through the Government’s Local Growth Fund.
