Chairman of Staffordshire County Council Kath Perry with Armed Forces Flag
People from across Staffordshire are being invited to pay tribute to members of the Armed Forces, as the county prepares to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.
As like previous years, the National Memorial Arboretum will lead the nation’s commemorations with a weekend of family activities. Events to mark the day will also take place in most towns and villages while the County Council will be flying the Armed Forces flag from County Buildings in Stafford.
A series of information events, music performances, military charity drop-ins and family activities will also be held at Staffordshire Place, Stafford in the run up to the day itself.
Kath Perry, Chairman of Staffordshire County Council said:
“Every year we celebrate Armed Forces Day and pay tribute to the brave service men and women and the work they do to keep us all safe. It’s a great day to show our appreciation and I would encourage people to try and attend a local event or one of our celebration events to show their support.”
Staffordshire companies, organisations and groups are also being reminded about the Armed Forces Covenant and the Covenant Fund. The fund offers financial support to organisations and projects to help deliver services to the Armed Forces community and support integration. People can find out more on the covenant fund website.
Philip Atkins, Leader of Staffordshire County Council added:
“As a big supporter of the Armed Forces I do hope people will find the time to attend an event near them to show their support. With an increasing number of military personnel here in Staffordshire, it’s vital that we continue to support our Armed Forces and their families in whatever way we can.
“I would also encourage groups and businesses to sign an Armed Forces Covenant to show their support and give them access to funding for activities that help bring both communities together.”
Some events taking Place:
Throughout the week starting Monday 24 June, in Staffordshire Place 1, Tipping Street in Stafford, at reception there will be a marketplace for organisations who support the armed forces to promote their organisation. Military charities and organisations will also be hosting drop-in sessions on Friday 28th June at Staffordshire Place 1.
- At Stafford library on Friday 28 June a storytelling session for military children and civilian children will be delivered by a representative from 22 Signal Brigade at 11.45am.
- On Friday 28 June, local performance charity Make Some Noise (who have secured grants from the Covenant Fund) will be showcasing their Upbeat music sessions at Staffordshire Place 1.
- The Community Engagement Team from HQ 11 Signals & West Midlands Brigade will be hosting Information sessions on the Armed Forces Covenant for businesses/organisations and the Covenant Fund on Friday 28th June at 10am at Staffordshire Place 1.
- Town Centre Shop/Business front competition: Retailers and businesses in Stafford are encouraged to enter a competition for the best dressed Armed Forces themed window display
