Gill Heath at the ‘On Your Doorstep’ exhibition in Cannock Library.
People in Cannock are being invited to explore the area’s rich history in a new touring exhibition at the town’s library.
Using objects, documents and photographs from Staffordshire Archives and Heritage Service collections, the ‘On Your Doorstep’ exhibition will help shine a light on local stories and memories from the past.
Amongst the objects on display is a camera used by press photographer David Stanford when he worked for the Express and Star. The camera is a twin lens Rolleicord Model V and it is easy to imagine David capturing the big stories, news and events in and around Cannock during the 1960s.
There will also be an opportunity for visitors to get involved with different activities during the exhibition including a poetry workshop with local poet Mal Dewhirst and a Digital Day where visitors can bring their own photographs along to be scanned and included on the Staffordshire Past Track website.
Gill Heath, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:
“This is a fabulous opportunity for people to see some of the county’s amazing collections on display in the heart of Cannock. I hope that it will inspire people to find out more about the extraordinary history of our wonderful county.”
Staffordshire County Council’s Archives and Heritage Service looks after over 11 million objects, photographs and documents which together tell the stories of Staffordshire’s people and places.
The exhibition has been supported with funding from Arts Council England and will be available at the library until 29 August 2019.
