Shobnall Road, Burton
Motorists in Burton will soon benefit from smoother journeys thanks to a major highways improvement project due to start on Sunday 4 August.
Staffordshire County Council will be carrying out the highways improvements and resurfacing work on Shobnall Road and Forest Road.
The investment will include the replacement of damaged kerb stones and ironworks, improved drains and the resurfacing of the entire road.
The works are expected to take around four weeks to complete, weather permitting and are being done during the summer holidays to minimise any disruption.
Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:
“This is a really important project for us and a significant investment in Burton’s roads. We know that good roads are important to both residents and businesses and of course the economy and I’m sure people will welcome the investment.
“Not only will it mean smoother journeys for people, but the entire resurfacing will save taxpayers money in the long term by vastly reducing the number of short-term repairs that are needed.
A temporary road closure will be in place throughout the scheme to ensure the work can be carried out safely. A signed diversion route will be in position with designated personnel at either end of the closure points to offer advice.
Both pedestrian and vehicular access to properties along the length of the works will be maintained throughout the works, apart from when work is being done directly outside a property. Helen added:
“With a scheme of this size there will always be some level of disruption but crews will be doing their upmost to get the work done as quickly and efficiently as possible. I would ask people to please bear with us as the work is carried out and thank them in advance for their co-operation and patience.”
