Motorists in Leek can look forward to smoother journeys thanks to highways improvements being carried out near the Nicholson War Memorial.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews will be carrying out the work to replace the existing cobble stones with new ones. The work is now scheduled to start on Monday 19 August and is expected to take around three weeks to complete.

The road will remain open during the improvements, however, temporary traffic lights will be in place allowing one lane of traffic to pass through at a time.

This kind of work to the road surface does need to be carried out in dry weather and requires at least seven days for the new stones to set. During this time, people and vehicles will not be allowed on the surface.

Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:

“The investment and improvement work here is great news for people in Leek and I am sure residents will notice a real difference once the work is complete.

“Crews will be doing their upmost to get the work done as quickly and efficiently as possible, but I would like to remind people that this type of road surface does need at least seven days to set.  I would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation and patience while the work is being carried out.”
