New town centre bollards set to be activated

A new set of rising bollards have been installed to help protect the pedestrian area in Tamworth town centre.
The previous set had been out of operation for several years and needed replacing as they were beyond repair.
Staffordshire County Council has worked with Tamworth Borough Council to install the new bollards with a £70,000 highways investment. They will be in operation from this Wednesday, September 18.Loading vehicles will be able to access the town centre on Tuesdays and Saturdays and on other days from midnight to 11am and 3pm to midnight.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said:
We’re pleased to have worked with the borough council to install the new rising bollards in Tamworth town centre.
They will help to protect the pedestrian area and ensure the town centre remains an attractive place to shop and visit. It is another example of how we are working with the borough council to improve and regenerate Tamworth.
As the old bollards have not been operating for a few years we want to let people know the new ones will be active from Wednesday, helping to enforce the traffic regulation order.”
