Staffordshire will join the country to mark an NHS anniversary this weekend.
National monuments and buildings across the UK will be illuminated blue to mark 72 years since both our national health service and social care system was founded.
The birthday weekend will be used to pay tribute to staff as well as public and organisations who have helped the NHS during the Covid19 pandemic. It will also be a chance to remember those lost.
The Shire Hall Gallery in the county town of Stafford will be lit blue from Friday 3 July to Sunday 5 July to mark the occasion.
Staffordshire County Council Leader, Philip Atkins, said the anniversary was of particular significance this year due to the vital contributions made by the county’s social care and healthcare workers during the Covid19 response.
Philip said:
“The outstanding and selfless care provided by our nation’s NHS and social care workers has never been more evident than during the last few months where, day in and day out, they’ve helped those in need while faced with some of the most difficult circumstances ever experienced, when some have lost loved ones before their time.
“On behalf of Staffordshire, I’d like to say, ‘thank you’ to all the remarkable people continuing to help our communities through this difficult period.”
Elsewhere in the country, iconic landmarks including the Royal Albert Hall, Blackpool Tower and Wembley Arch will be illuminated in blue as part of the tributes.
