People who visited Silverdale Working Men’s Club are being urged to book a test for COVID-19, after an outbreak is linked to the venue.
Three confirmed cases and a further three suspected cases have been connected to the club following a bingo event on Sunday, August 16.
The club had been following social distancing measures and closed as soon as it became aware of the first two cases.
Anyone who visited the venue between August 16 and when the club closed at 9pm on Friday August 21 should book a test online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by phoning 119.
People who are showing any symptoms should also stay at home for 10 days as well as booking a test.
Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Health and Care, said:
“We know that there were a number of bingo events at the club during the week and members and their guests are now being traced.
“As a precaution, we are advising everyone who visited the club that week to book a test. People should also look out for symptoms and stay home for 10 days if they develop a high temperature, new persistent cough or loss of taste or smell.
“We have seen how quickly outbreaks can escalate and asking people to get tested will help provide better intelligence to help us contain the virus.”
Tests are available at the drive-through regional testing centre at the Stoke City south car park and, for people who don’t have access to a car, at the new walk-through centre at the Ryecroft Car Park in Newcastle.
If people have no symptoms, they should tick the option “I do not have symptoms, but my local council has asked me to get a test.”
Dr Johnny McMahon, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing, said:
“We are fortunate to have both a drive-through and the new walk-through facility in close proximity and I would urge everyone who visited the club to book a test online today.
“This is another timely reminder of just how contagious COVID-19 is, so it is hugely important that we all continue to stick to the rules if we are to prevent a second peak of infections in Staffordshire.”
This means:
- Washing your hands regularly with soap and hot water
- Covering your face on public transport and in shops
- Making space, at least 2m, if you do need to go out
- If you are eating or drinking out, leave your contact details
- Stay home for 10 days and book a test if you have symptoms
- Follow the advice of the Test and Trace service if contacted
