More than 2,000 people came forward to be tested over the bank holiday weekend after an outbreak linked to the Silverdale Working Men’s Club.
There have been 17 confirmed cases following the outbreak on August 16 and these have been linked to 12 venues in Silverdale and Newcastle through visits and contacts before people tested positive.
Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director of Health and Care, said:
“We have had a fantastic response to our appeal for people to get tested and I would like to thank everyone for their support in helping us tackle this outbreak.
“If you visited one of the listed venues and haven’t been tested yet, then please do so, as this will let us know who needs to self-isolate and help stop the spread of infection.”
People who visited the following places are advised to get tested:
- Silverdale Working Men’s Club – August 16 to 21
- The Bush pub – August 20 to 22
- The Vine pub – August 20 to 23
- The George & Dragon pub – August 20 to 22
- Newcastle (King Street) Working Men’s Club – August 22
- The Kiln – August 22
- The Crown – August 22
- Yates in Newcastle – August 22
- The Roebuck pub – August 23
- The Bilash restaurant – August 24
- The Arnold Machin – August 26 and 27
- The Westbury Tavern, Clayton – August 26 and 27
You can book a test online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by phoning 119. The nearest site is the walk-though centre at the Ryecroft Car Park Newcastle ST5 2AA. This is open from 8am to 8pm.
There are also regional drive-through testing sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Please note the mobile testing unit is no longer at Knutton.
People who test positive will need to stay home for 10 days and their household/close contacts will have to self-isolate for 14 days.
People who test negative and have NOT been in close contact with someone who has tested positive do not need to self-isolate.
The county council continues to work with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Public Health England to contain the virus and support local businesses.
Venues visited by people who have tested positive can open and welcome customers once COVID-19 risk assessments have been completed and they have COVID-19 compliance measures in place.
People are also being reminded to leave their full and correct details if visiting pubs and restaurants to help support contact tracing.
The county council continues to advise everyone to follow the guidance to stay safe and protect their families.
This includes:
- Washing your hands regularly with soap and hot water
- Covering your face on public transport and in shops
- Making space, at least 2m, if you do need to go out
- If you are eating or drinking out, leave your contact details
- Stay home for 10 days and book a test if you have symptoms
- Follow the advice of the Test and Trace service if contacted
