Staffordshire County Council is organising vouchers for food and essential items during the Christmas holidays.
Staffordshire County Council has welcomed confirmation that it has more than £2.2 million to spend supporting low income families this winter.
The authority will use the money from central Government to target those most in need of support, including providing vouchers for food and essential items during the Christmas holidays.
Help will be aimed at those who are eligible for Free School Meals, and children of adults who can demonstrate that they are facing financial difficulties, including as a result of Covid-19.
Alan White, Leader of Staffordshire County Council, said:
We know that times are hard for some families at the moment, through no fault of their own.
Staffordshire County Council has said throughout this pandemic that we will do all we can to help residents through this crisis and this is just another example.”
In October Staffordshire County Council provided half term support for the families of more than 17,700 children, providing a £15 voucher to be used on food and essential items during the school holiday.
Parents were contacted via schools and had vouchers texted and emailed to them.
Alan White said:
The response to our offer of half term support for low income families was so great that we had already begun planning what we could do to help during the Christmas holidays.”
