Cancellation of Caverswall community testing centre on Monday

Coronavirus testing 2

A community testing centre due to run tomorrow (Monday, 7 December) at Caverswall Village Hall has been cancelled.

The testing for people without COVID symptoms scheduled from 9:00am to 3:00pm has been cancelled due to the availability of testing kit.

Those with an appointment have been informed and people intending to get a test are being encouraged to book at Dimensions Leisure Centre in Stoke-on-Trent instead. People should book their test through the national system at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus. People should tick the box that says ‘My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms’. Alternatively, people can book by calling 119.

Dr Richard Harling, Director of Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Unfortunately we’ve had to cancel the testing centre planned for Caverswall on Monday due to the lack of available testing kits.

“We have contacted those with a booking  and are encouraging anyone planning to book a test to do so at Dimensions Leisure Centre in Stoke-on-Trent instead. People should book their test through the NHS Covid-19 website at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus.

“These rapid-turnaround tests are helping us to identify areas that are seeing a high rate of community transmission. The tests give us a better understanding of the spread in the area which means we can identify and isolate more cases. We’re busy recruiting people to help deliver these tests, which will eventually see up to 80,000 people in the county tested every single week.”
