County council health chiefs are calling for people living in covid hotspots in Burton to be extra vigilant and book a test even if they do not have symptoms.
This call has been made as the number of cases in East Staffordshire remains high with over 200 cases per 100,000 population per week
On Monday (7 December) the county council, working with the borough council, identified covid hotspots where people should take extra care and book a test even if they feel well and do not have symptoms.
All of East Staffordshire’s hotspots are in Burton - the wards of Anglesey, Eton Park, Horninglow and Shobnall. These are the same four wards declared an ‘area of interest’ back in September when the community put in place extra measures to help control the virus.
On top of additional testing, the county council is calling on Burton residents to pull together and show the same determination in successfully bringing cases down as they did back in Autumn.
Dr Johnny McMahon, Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing, said:
“There has been a lot of positive developments over the last week and cases in Staffordshire are falling, but in some areas they are not falling as quickly as we would like.
“People in Burton have shown previously that if we all work hard together it is possible to stop the spread of the virus.
“I am confident that if we show the same focus and follow the rules carefully we can bring the number of cases down.”
If you live or work in one of the hotspots below book a rapid Covid test at one of our community sites and will get your result in around 30 minutes. If there are no community sessions planned people should book a test via the national portal www.nhs.uk/coronavirus and choose “my local council has asked me to book a test”. This is even if you feel well and don’t have any symptoms.
