Work to build a new roundabout on a main Staffordshire road to provide access to a housing development begins on Monday March 8.
The 27-week scheme will see the installation on the A449 Stafford Road, just north of Penkridge. It will provide access to the new development to the west of the road. The scheme is being paid for by the developer.
Work includes the realignment of the A449, installation of a new drainage system, traffic signs and road lighting. While work is carried out, a temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place in the immediate area and temporary traffic signals in place.
Later in the scheme, there will be some overnight closures of the A449 to enable surfacing work to take place safely. Dates will be publicised closer to the time.
When the scheme has been completed, existing 30mph, 40mph and national speed limit stretches will be moved north of the new roundabout.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:
This is an essential scheme to provide access to the new housing development to the north of Penkridge. It is being fully funded by the developer.
Throughout the works period, temporary traffic signals will need to be in place and so we would ask people travelling in the area to allow additional time for their journeys.
We appreciate this is a lengthy scheme and on a very busy road and so would like to apologise in advance for an inconvenience caused.”
