Staffordshire residents are being asked for their views on the county’s highways and transport services – from the condition of roads and footpaths to the quality of cycling facilities.
Their feedback will be compared with the views of others from across England and Scotland as part of the National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction survey.
Staffordshire is one of 111 councils responsible for highways to sign up to a standardised survey that will ask people the same questions, whether they live in Somerset, Stockton-on-Tees or Suffolk.
The survey, which is being run for the 14th year, is the largest collaboration between councils offering the opportunity to compare results, share in best practice and identify further opportunities to work together in the future.
The questionnaire will be sent to a minimum random sample of at least 3,300 of Staffordshire residents from this week, followed by a reminder, with local and national results to be published in late October 2021. Since the survey is based on a sample, residents that receive a copy are being urged to take part.
Residents that receive the questionnaire can complete the survey online if they prefer. A short URL link will be printed on the front of the questionnaire and they will need to enter a code before completing the questionnaire.
The results will enable The National Highways and Transport (NHT) Network to find out what people in Staffordshire think about these important services. This will provide one of several ways the county council can assess how it is performing. It gives people an opportunity to say which services they think the council should prioritise and improve.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: “The safety and quality of our highways and transport services is a top priority to the county council and people’s views and feedback is crucial to us.
“Through this standard national public survey, we can get the best value for money and the results will enable us to spot common themes, both across the county and across the country. We can also see where we’re doing particularly well and areas where we could adopt some of the best practice of others.”
