18-year-olds who live or attend schools in Leek or Cheddleton are being reminded they have just two days to book their Covid-19 vaccine.

A pop-up vaccine clinic is operating at Leek Moorlands Hospital until Wednesday of this week.

As surge testing begins across the area to discover more cases of the Variant of Concern, younger people especially are being encouraged to take up the offer of a vaccine before the pop-up clinic closes.

Vaccines are available to 18s and over who are Staffordshire Moorlands students and live in or attend schools in Leek or Cheddleton. Slots are still available to book, and people can find out more via www.staffordshire.gov.uk/leektesting.

Pop-up testing is also available

Dr Richard Harling, Director for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council said:

“The vaccine pop-up clinic is part of a two-pronged attack to address the rising Delta Variant cases in the area. As our surge testing begins this week, we’re encouraging everyone who is eligible to get themselves vaccinated, as this provides some of the best protection against the virus.

“With rising numbers of the Delta Variant in the area, we’re doing everything we can to stop the spread. One way local people can help is by getting the vaccine when they are eligible, and before the pop-up in the town finishes on Wednesday.”

Dr Johnny McMahon, Cabinet Member for Health and Integrated Care said:

“We’re seeing a high number of cases amongst the 18-34 age bracket, which is why we’re asking people in this age group to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The pop-up clinic at Leek Moorlands Hospital is local and incredibly convenient; there are plenty of appointments available so please, if you’re eligible, don’t delay. Book your vaccination.”

The county council has also put on some extra pop-up Covid-19 testing in the following locations:

  • Tuesday 15 June - Brough Park Leisure Centre, ST16 3AT, 2pm to 6pm
  • Wednesday 16 June - Brough Park Leisure Centre,ST16 3AT, 2pm to 6pm
