Spectacular light shows, cinema under the stars, top national attractions and beautiful open spaces are amongst the activities in Staffordshire this summer.

There’s a busy schedule of family events across the county, including The Great Exhibition at Lichfield Cathedral, where the whole cathedral will be bathed in light and sound, Dino Summer at the National Forest Adventure Farm, and outdoor cinema at The Trentham Estate and Tamworth Castle.

Treat the family to active, adventurous and fun days out at two of the UK’s top theme parks, Alton Towers Resort, home of the brand new Gangsta Granny ride and much more, and Drayton Manor Resort, where the nautical-themed zone Adventure Cove opens this summer.

For adrenaline-pumping, all-weather action, tackle the slides and flumes at Waterworld, the slopes at the Snowdome, or the huge indoor play barn at Lower Drayton Farm.

Get up close and personal to furry friends at Trentham Monkey Forest and Peak Wildlife Park, or create a masterpiece in the decorating studios at World of Wedgwood.

Unwind with a stroll at Weston Park and the National Memorial Arboretum, or enjoy a bike ride in the Staffordshire Peak District, The National Forest, Cannock Chase or one of Staffordshire’s many country parks, nature reserves and waterways.

Philip White, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member responsible for tourism at Staffordshire County Council, is urging families to opt for a staycation this summer and explore the county’s amazing attractions and countryside.

He said:

“Whether it’s the thrills of our theme parks, visits to our national attractions or day trips to our wonderful countryside and parks, we have something for everyone.

“With a Staffordshire staycation, not only do you get the chance to explore our amazing attractions but you’ll also be supporting local businesses after what has been a tough trading year for them.

“It’s also important to remember that some attractions may still have restrictions in place and need to be booked in advance, so please visit their websites and Facebook pages for details before visiting.”
