Staffordshire’s record breaking swimmer, Adam Peaty from Uttoxeter has struck gold again at the Tokyo Olympics.

Having won TeamGB’s first gold medal of the games on Monday in the 100m breast stroke, Adam has added a second gold to his tally in the 4x100m mixed medley relay.

The British quartet of Peaty, Kathleen Dawson, James Guy and Anna Hopkin won the race in a record breaking three minutes 37.58 seconds.

It’s the first time in 113 years that Team GB swimmers have won four gold medals at an Olympics.

Talking about Adam and the team’s win, Alan White, Leader at Staffordshire County Council said:

“On Monday Adam blew us all away, winning his first and Team GB’s first gold medal of the games

"The win also earned him a place in the history books as the first Briton to win back-to-back Olympic titles.

“This is his second gold of the games and another excellent performance.

"He’s a remarkable athlete who continues to deliver tournament after tournament.

“We’re all really proud of Adam and everything he has achieved so far.

"He’s a great ambassador for Staffordshire as well as being a brilliant role model for young people.”
