Work to create access to a new supermarket in Biddulph off a main road roundabout begins this week.
The nine-week scheme on the A527 Tunstall Road/D1284 St John’s Road junction will see a fourth arm built on the roundabout for the new Aldi store.
Work will also include an upgrade of the traffic light junction of Tunstall Road, Newpool Road and Park Lane.
A crossing point will be included on the store access, pavements altered and the roundabout resurfaced. The scheme is being funded by the developer.
So that work can be carried out safely, temporary traffic signals will be in place. Towards the end of the scheme when the roundabout is resurfaced, some overnight closures will be needed. Signs will be put up on site in advance of this period of works and a signed diversion put in place.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:
The new store will undoubtedly be an asset to the local community and we welcome this site being redeveloped.
Our highways team will be carrying out the access work on behalf of the developer which is fully funding the scheme.
This is a nine-week scheme on a main road in the town and therefore unfortunately there will be some disruption for which we apologise for in advance.
We would ask people using this route over the scheme period to allow additional travel time.”
