Plans for the provision of nursing care in Staffordshire will be reviewed to ensure they are still fit for purpose.
In plans due to be put before Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet on 16 February, officers will be taking another look at their previous plans for nursing care—which included building two new nursing homes—to ensure they still meet people’s needs.
Since plans were originally put forward two years ago, adult social care reforms and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has meant previous estimates on price and future demand for places have changed.
In light of these changes, the county council will put together a new business case, and engage with residents and stakeholders to ensure the proposals take account of the needs of people and communities.
The new business case will be brought back to the county council’s cabinet in the autumn.

“We are committed to ensuring that there is a supply of good quality nursing care which meets the future needs of the population, at an affordable price.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the county. Added to this, proposed government social care reforms will have a significant impact on the care home market. It is therefore only right we look again at our plans for nursing care in Staffordshire, and ensure these are taken into account.
“By taking some extra time to review our plans, speak to residents and those directly involved in nursing care, we can ensure our plans are fit for the future.”
