Staffordshire couples looking to tie the knot will soon be going to the new Registrar’s Office in County Buildings to register their special day.
From Wednesday 16 March, the Judge’s Chambers in the historic County Buildings on Martin Street in Stafford will be the new home of Stafford Registrar’s Office where people will give notice of marriage, civil partnerships and to register births and deaths.

The new venue will provide more spacious rooms for appointments and statutory ceremonies, along with the Drawing Room, a larger, ornate ceremony room for weddings, civil partnerships and naming parties.
Ian Parry, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance said:
This is great news for people in Stafford and will give them a more memorable experience during those key life events, such as getting married or registering a birth.
In the heart of Stafford, County Buildings is a stunning Grade II listed building with loads of character. The former Judges Chambers are equally as beautiful with ornate decor and architecture. Both are packed full of history, offering an accessible and atmospheric space.
Now with more spacious rooms for statutory ceremonies, along with the Drawing Room capable of holding up to 50 guest for a ceremony, it’s an ideal venue.“
Built and opened by Henry Hare, an emerging young architect in 1895, County Buildings is over 130 years old.
Staffordshire has five full time registration offices across the county and several satellite offices on an appointment only basis. Last year the service hosted 4,000 weddings and registered over 3000 births and approximately 6,000 deaths.
