£1 million highways improvements to start on A34 near Stone

Motorists are being advised of highways improvements along the A34 near Stone due to start on Wednesday 7 June.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be carrying out kerbing, drainage and carriageway resurfacing work at The Fillybrooks/Walton Roundabout, the A520 Stafford Road and the B5026 Eccleshall Road.

The £1 million scheme is part of a £30 million investment the county council is making into its roads over the next two years.  The investment aims to improve major gateways into Staffordshire and is on top of an extra £5 million to fix highways defects across the county.

The scheme is expected to take around 15 weeks to complete and will include a combination of temporary lane and road closures to ensure the work can be carried out safely.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:

“This is an important scheme for the area which will help to prolong the life of the road and deliver smoother journeys for drivers.

“Good roads are important for residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained.  This is why we recently announced an extra investment of £5 million in pothole repairs, on top of an extra £30 million investment in larger repairs and resurfacing of roads and junctions over the next two years.

“To make sure the work can be carried out safely, some temporary lane and road closures are necessary.  Any vehicles requiring access through the road closure to their properties should also take extra care whilst driving within the works area.  As ever, our crews will be doing everything they can to minimise any inconvenience and I would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”

The kerbing and drainage work along the A34 will be carried out under daytime lane closures from 7 June to 7 July.  Carriageway resurfacing will be done at night times under full road closures starting on 10 July to 28 July, between 8pm and 5am.

On the B026 Eccleshall Road, kerbing and drainage works are scheduled to commence at the start of the school holidays on 24 July to minimise disruption.  Works will be carried out 6 days per week including Saturdays.  A one-way road closure will be in place for six weeks allowing traffic to travel towards Eccleshall from the A34 only.  A signed diversion will be in place.  A full road closure will also be required for approximately 10 days within this period to install drainage connections across the road.  Exact dates for this will be confirmed as works progress.  Resurfacing will take place during September at night times under a full road closure.  Details will be confirmed closer to the time.

Further details of the works are available on the One.network website.
