With just days to go until Staffordshire IRONMAN70.3 people are being urged to show their support to athletes and local businesses this weekend.

County council leader Alan White – who will be once again participating – said the event will showcase Staffordshire and demonstrate its community spirit, following the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Around 3,000 athletes will be taking part in the triathlon event on Sunday June 12. They will undertake a 1.2-mile reservoir swim at Chasewater Country Park, a meandering 56-mile bike course through the heart of the Staffordshire countryside and Cannock Chase AONB, and a 13.1-mile run alongside the River Sow and into Stafford town centre.

Spectator hotpots include Chasewater Country Park, Stafford town centre and Stafford Castle. There will be a free park and ride service for spectators from the New Beacon Sports and Fitness Club on the A518 Uttoxeter Road.

Alan said:

It’s fantastic to see Staffordshire IRONMAN70.3 return again and with a record number of participants. As we recover from the pandemic, we’re looking forward to hosting major events and receiving visitors from across the UK and abroad.

We wish all the athletes good look on Sunday and hope all spectators enjoy the event too and visit our superb cafes, restaurants and shops.

I’m anticipating another tough but rewarding challenge, and it’ll be great to take in the route around some of our county’s landmarks and beautiful countryside.

I’d like to thank the event organisers and all partners involved in making this weekend’s event happen.”

Meet Alan White. The county council leader is taking part in the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire on Sunday 12 June 2022.
