People across Staffordshire are being urged to turn out and show their support for the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay as it travels along county streets in just over a week.
The Queen’s Baton Relay visits each of Staffordshire’s eight districts and boroughs from Monday July 18, with special events taking place at various locations. It has connected communities across the Commonwealth and will have taken in 72 nations and territories in Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and the Americas.
Every region in England is included on the 25-day tour ahead of the opening ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on July 28. Over 2,000 baton-bearers are taking part and have been selected because of their inspiring stories and the difference they have made to their communities.
The Queen’s Baton Relay visits Newcastle on Monday July 18 before heading to Staffordshire Moorlands and Stafford Borough on Tuesday July 19. On Wednesday July 20 it takes in East Staffordshire, Lichfield District and Tamworth before moving on to South Staffordshire and Cannock Chase District on Saturday July 23.
People can find out details on roads affected, timings and events on The Birmingham 2022 website in the days leading up to the Staffordshire section. Rolling road closures mean any disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for communities and culture Victoria Wilson said:
It’s fantastic that we’ll be welcoming the Queen’s Baton Relay to Staffordshire in just over a week’s time ahead of us hosting two of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games events.
This will be a truly memorable event for communities across Staffordshire and with the route taking in every district in the county, we’d urge people to come out, show their support and have a great time.
The baton-bearers include several Staffordshire residents who have made a difference to their communities which recognise their achievements.
People should check the main Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games website for details of when the Queen’s Baton Relay reaches their area and the best place to watch.”
