Visitors to Stafford’s libraries are invited to join a series of events at this year’s Pocket Film Festival running from Tuesday 13 to Sunday 18 September.
The festival will give audiences the chance to engage with film through short films, old classics, events with live musical accompaniment, new releases and archive screenings.
Amongst the festival venues are Rising Brook library and Stafford library both of which will be hosting events throughout the week.
To celebrate the libraries Summer Reading Challenge ‘Gadgeteers’, On Saturday 10 September, families are invited to a free creative activity to make their own movie poster with local artist Iain Perry. People can book a place through the library.
Rising Brook Library are also hosting a family screening of Wall-E, a heart-warming story of hope which will take people on a fantastic journey across the galaxy. The event will take place on Sunday 18 September and people can find out more and buy low cost tickets on the festival website.
Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council said:
“We are thrilled to be supporting and taking part in this year’s Pocket Film Festival.
“Our libraries are at the heart of local communities and this festival provides a great opportunity for people to experience new arts and culture experiences on their doorstep.
“We’re also excited to be showing the winning entries of the 2022 Staffordshire Day Film Competition, based on the theme of the Great Outdoors! During the festival week, the films will be shown from 1-2pm each day on the Stafford Library screen, so pop in on your lunch break for a real treat.”
Festival highlights include return of Meg Morley, who this year will be performing live accompaniment to the Ernst Lubitsch silent comedy ‘So This is Paris’. The specially curated silent short film night is all about ‘Life and Soul’, with special live verbal accompaniment by poet and MC Rawz, and a special Reggae themed film night followed by a DJ set by Count Skylarkin’.
There will also be screenings courtesy of Stafford Film Theatre, Staffordshire Film Archive, as well as special screenings of family favorites and classic films at participating venues across Stafford.
