Fit out of new distribution centre nears completion as highways works set for autumn finish

Fit out works at a new office, storage and distribution centre in Staffordshire is nearing completion as highways improvements for the site progress.

The Pets at Home development on the A34 just north of Stafford at Redhill is expected to employ more than 750 people.

Now employment opportunities at the 670,000sq ft facility are being advertised and can be found at: www.petsathomejobs.com

Staffordshire County Council’s highways team is building a new roundabout on the A34 to provide access to the development. The works have been funded by commercial property developer Stoford.

The highways scheme includes improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, a signalised crossing, new bus stops and improved street lighting. It is scheduled for completion by this autumn.

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said:

Pets at Home preparing to start its operations at its new Stafford site is a significant milestone and great news for the company and the county town.

This is a major business development and we’re pleased to have supported it through the work of our highways team. The site is a superb location with excellent connectivity.

Pets at Home will bring a range of employment opportunities to the county in the coming months, and our Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service will be on hand to support them whenever needed in reaching appropriate local candidates.”

Stafford Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic development and planning Frances Beatty said:

This is further demonstration of the many millions of pounds of investment that we are helping to bring to our borough.

We have major developments planned, underway, or recently delivered in both the private and public sectors. For example the new Skills and Innovation Centre for the college in Stafford and their Institute of Technology planned for the new multi-million pound community on the doorstep of the town’s railway station.

The creation of a destination park at Westbridge Park in Stone which goes ahead in the spring, or the refurbishment of the Market Square in Stafford - the first phase of the massive High Street transformation - with work expected to be completed in the Autumn. Then there is PLP Stafford at the Stone Business Park which is on track to be completed in the summer and earmarked to deliver another 500 jobs.

We are already working with our local businesses to make sure they are aware of the opportunities to provide goods and services that Pets at Home (PAH), with more than 750 employees, may require. The jobs PAH will need include highly skilled positions, such as in finance and planning, and highly skilled jobs are something our council has been proactively encouraging when attracting new businesses to the borough.”
