County Cllr Philip White
Staffordshire County Council’s libraries service has been awarded funding worth £265,000 for improvements at Burton library
The funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Support (DCMS), is part of their Libraries Improvement Funding (LIF).
Library staff are now working on the plans, which would see a refresh of the library space, new shelving, multisensory equipment, a maker space and an enhanced digital offer.
Staff will also be getting feedback from customers on their ideas to improve the facilities and anything else they would like to see in the library.
Philip White, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council said:
“This is great news for everyone who uses the library and we’re delighted with the funding award.
“Burton library is one of our busiest libraries, offering a huge range of services, groups and activities, as well as access to all the usual books, resources, computers and printing. The funding will not only allow us to give the library a good make over but will also allow us to make a number of improvements. Staff are already looking at what could be done but will also be talking to regular customers over the next few months to get their ideas too.
“Our libraries continue to be hubs within local communities, helping bring people together, whilst providing access to vital services, learning opportunities and the chance to take part in new activities.”
The £265,000 investment is in addition to funding already coming from the Burton Town Deal to refurbish the exterior of the building.
