A mobile library service is now available in Burton outside the main library building after it closed temporarily on Monday due to safety concerns.
The mobile library vehicle will be in place and open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. There will also be a book collection service outside the main library building on Saturdays. The café and registrars service are open as normal.
The main library building has been closed as a precaution due to safety concerns about some of the ceiling fittings. Further inspections will be carried out from next week followed by the necessary repairs, which will be paid for using the county council’s own funds.
Updates on work progress and opening dates for the main library building will be announced as soon as possible.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has provided parking space outside the main library during operating hours, while Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has provided overnight parking space for the mobile library vehicle.
Library users are also being reminded of the county council’s electronic library offer at: www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Libraries/Library-services/eLibrary
Darryl Eyers, Staffordshire County Council’s director for economy, infrastructure and skills, said:
We’re pleased to have been able to set up the mobile library service promptly following the temporary closure of the main building.
This will be open during normal weekday hours. We’re grateful to both the borough council and fire service for their support.
We hope to be able to update people with timescales for works and opening the main building soon.”
A new ceiling will be installed later this year as part of planned wider renovation works to the library building.
