People invited to celebrate British Science Week at Perton Library

People are being invited to celebrate all things science at Perton Library on Saturday 18 March from 10am to 3pm.

Robot and coding workshops, forensics activities, geology, and even a real fire engine are amongst the activities in this year’s science fair.

The event, organised by Perton Library and Wild About Perton, promises a fun packed day for all the family, whilst promoting careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Victoria Wilson, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture said:

“Following the great success of last year’s event, I’m delighted that our science fair is back again.

“It’s always a fantastic day and it’s great to see so much fun activity on offer, all helping to inspire people to get into science and technology and to discover all that our libraries have to offer.

“The library team, along with local groups, have been working together to plan the event and we are grateful for the various help and funding we have received. Thanks to this, we can offer some fascinating shows, exhibitions, talks  and things to see and do. Library staff are also working with friends from Wild About Perton and are again buddying up the event with their annual Spring Festival.

“This is a great example of how important our libraries are in bringing local people and communities together.”

Activities and organisations available on the day include:

  • Hyett Education, Stembotics, robot and coding workshops
  • Forensics activity with Staffordshire Police
  • Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are bringing a fire engine
  • Warwick University STEM Outreach Team, Medical Mavericks and Lapworth Museum of Geology
  • Wild About Perton and National Trust, Dudmaston – The Science of Conservation
  • Forest of Mercia, RSPB, Staffordshire Wildlife and Kingswood Trust
  • Waste Savvy Staffs and South Staffordshire Council Climate Change Team
  • Perton Library Astronomy Group and Wolverhampton Astronomical Society
  • Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Archives and Heritage Team, photography through the years.

Some events do need to be booked in advance and people should contact Perton Library on 01902 506050 or at perton.library@staffordshire.gov.uk
