Burton library to reopen after internal building work

Burton library will reopen this Monday April 24 following a temporary closure to allow for safety work on the ceiling in the main part of the building.

The building was closed as a safety precaution on March 20 with a temporary mobile library service in place outside shortly afterwards.

The café and registrars service have been open as normal throughout the closure period.

Necessary safety work has now been completed and paid for using the county council’s own funds. A new ceiling will be installed later this year as part of planned wider renovation works to the library building.

Both East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service stepped in to help during the temporary closure. The borough council provided parking space for the mobile library service on its car park, while the fire service allocated and overnight parking space for the vehicle.

Darryl Eyers, Staffordshire County Council’s director for economy, infrastructure and skills, said:

We’re pleased the main library building in Burton will be open again as normal from Monday.

We apologise for the inconvenience while the closure was in place, but we will not compromise on people’s safety. Thankfully both the café and registrars service were able to operate as normal throughout.

I’d like to thank both East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their support, and to the libraries team for mobilising the temporary service on site.”
