The carbon bubble when it previously visited Stafford
Dates when a giant carbon bubble will be visiting Staffordshire have been released.
The countywide tour, which aims to help raise awareness of climate change is being led by Staffordshire County Council in partnership with Staffordshire’s eight district and borough councils. It’s all part of plans to help the county reduce its carbon footprint and get to net zero by 2050.
The 10-meter bright orange installation will help people to visualize the impact of their daily activities and carbon emissions. When visiting the bubble, people will also get the chance to meet staff from the climate change team for advice on the changes they can make to help the environment.
The tour will be visiting:
- Newcastle Market Square, Wednesday 17th May
- Burton Market Square, Saturday 27th May
- Staffordshire County Show Ground, Stafford | Wednesday 31st May - Thursday 1st June for the annual County Show
- Leek Sparrow Park, Derby Street, Saturday 24th June
- Beacon Park, Lichfield, Wednesday 2nd August
- Castle Grounds, Tamworth, Tuesday 8th August
- Hednesford Park, Cannock, Saturday 12th August
- Baggeridge Country Park, South Staffordshire, Monday 14th August
The tour is being supported by the Staffordshire Sustainability Board. The board is made up of elected members from across Staffordshire’s nine councils that have all come together to tackle climate change in Staffordshire.
Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for Climate Change at Staffordshire County Council and Chair of the board said: "We are thrilled to bring the Carbon Bubble tour to Staffordshire as part of our ongoing commitment to combat climate change.
“The bubble is a great way of illustrating how much carbon we all use as well as helping start a conversation about what we can do to help reduce our impact. It’s pretty unmissable and I’m sure people will learn, be engaged and take action on climate change.
“Remember, by making small changes in our lives we can all make a big difference together. Please join us when the bubble visits a town near you and be part of the collective effort to protect our planet.”
The tour is designed to be as low carbon as possible. The bubble itself is inflated using a generator run using sustainable and environmentally friendly fuel, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. Furthermore, the emissions generated from transporting the bubble have been offset, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.
