Staffordshire’s volunteers have been praised for the support they give to people and their local communities across the county.

Victoria Wilson, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities, said:

Our dedicated army of volunteers across Staffordshire make an invaluable contribution to the council, this county and the communities we all serve.

Without them, life would certainly be more difficult for many and I would like to thank them for the difference they make to so many lives.”

Hundreds of volunteers directly support the work of the council and now a new charter of “volunteering principles” has been drawn up to ensure that everyone who volunteers with the council is supported to have a positive and consistent experience.

Victoria added:

We recognise too, that volunteers can get a huge amount out of helping others and our new “volunteering principles” aim to make the experience flexible, enjoyable and personally rewarding for those supporting the work of the county council.”

The new volunteering principles give guidance and support to volunteers and council officers working with them and cover areas such as; defined roles and responsibilities, training and flexible volunteering.

The introduction of the new volunteering principles and guidance will be recommended for approval by Cabinet on June 21.
