A county council-led employment and training service has been praised by one of Staffordshire’s new major businesses.

Pets at Home – which has opened its fulfilment centre at Redhill north of Stafford – has hailed the Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service as a great and responsive partner.

The service offers business of all sizes across Staffordshire the support they need to recruit and upskill their workforce.

It has supported hundreds of businesses to tap into new sources of talent, connect to training and advertise their vacancies for free.

Nikki Marsden, Pets at Home's talent acquisition lead, has worked with Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service member Helen Lee. Nikki said:

Helen has been a great source of support and guidance throughout the last year that Pets at Home has been preparing to open our new fulfilment centre in Stafford.

I have had many introductions to key people in the local area that have been supportive in us recruiting the high volume of people we need.

Helen has been responsive to all requests of support and has consistently considered Pets at Home when there have been events happening in the area that we can get involved in. It’s been successful start to what I’m sure will continue to be a great partnership for us in Staffordshire.”

The Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service’s team of brokers on hand to match job seekers with appropriate vacancies – easing the process for candidates.

It is working with a range of partner organisations to provide a comprehensive search of over 10,000 jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities across a range of sectors.

The website includes advice on careers or training options, top tips to gain employment and information for businesses. It also provides a career directory with information to help better understand different job roles and links to other web sources offering support both locally and nationally.

An in-person service is also available. The team of brokers will be able to help people navigate job searches and put together a plan to support them through interviews.

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said:

The Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service is the best place to go for anyone looking for new employment and skills as well as businesses needing to fill vacancies with appropriate candidates.

It’s fantastic to see one of our newest employers using the service – both for the benefit of the business and our residents.

There are many vacancies in Staffordshire across a range of sectors which is good news for anyone looking for a new job, as well as training, apprenticeships and tips and advice to steer them through the recruitment process.

Our service, which involves a range of partner organisations, has a team of specialist brokers to match people with lasting employment based on their skills and experience. It can also signpost them to other support organisations if needed.

Our aim is to ensure people can make the most of local opportunities and gain lasting, better paid and better skilled jobs, while businesses are more confident about taking on employees that are suited to their operations to help boost productivity.”
