Highways crews in Staffordshire will be carrying out improvements and resurfacing work on a busy road in Leek starting on Monday 9 October.
The scheme, on the A53 Broad Street, between Daintry Street and the A520 Compton Junction will include improvements to drainage, kerbing, footway patching and road resurfacing. The work is expected to take around four weeks to complete and will include temporary traffic lights and road closures to make sure the works can be carried out safely.
The drainage, kerbing, and footway works will be carried out under two-way traffic lights, Monday to Friday during off peak times from 9.30am to 3pm to help minimise disruption. Some works outside these times may also be required, however crews will be doing their utmost to get the work done as efficiently as possible.
The resurfacing work will be carried out on Sundays when the road will be closed in both directions and a signed diversion will be in place. Broad Street will be closed on the 15, 22, 29 October and 5 November. Access to properties within the closure area will be maintained where possible, however, the bus stops within the works area will be suspended when the road is closed.
The scheme is being funded through the Department for Transport’s pothole funding announced earlier in the year and is in addition to a £30 million investment by Staffordshire County Council in its roads over the next two years.

“We know that good roads are important for residents, businesses and of course the economy and its important that we keep them well maintained. This work, along with similar schemes across the county is part of a wider £30 million investment in our roads over the next two years.
“Crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum and will be doing most of the work during off peak times when the roads are quieter. They’ll also be doing the resurfacing work on Sundays, again when the traffic is quieter. I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while the work is carried out.”
