Overnight closures needed for town centre works

Posted on Friday 24th November 2023
LATEST NEWS BLUEGREEN

Investigative works ahead of a major road maintenance scheme in Stafford town centre will take place over the next two weeks.

On weekday nights only (Monday to Friday) the A449 Wolverhampton Road will be closed in both directions from the Alexandra Road junction to the A34 gyratory near the town centre.
Investigative road and drainage works need to take place before the resurfacing scheme begins in spring next year.

Beginning on Monday November 27, closures will be in place from 8pm until 6am on this stretch, ending at 6am on Saturday December 9. A signed diversion will be in place. People will be able to access properties during the closures.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:

These investigative works are necessary ahead of the major resurfacing due to begin next spring. This will give huge lasting improvements to one of the main routes into Stafford.

Work will take place overnight to minimise disruption, though unfortunately full night-time closures on a short stretch are needed so this can be carried out safely. We’d like to thank people for their understanding during the works period.”
