Main Stafford route to undergo major improvements

Improvements to one of Stafford’s main routes will begin in the new year.

The £9million package of improvements through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, which will see new walking and cycling routes along the A34 in Stafford and Cannock in addition to road repairs, starts on January 2.

Street light replacements and drainage works will begin in Stafford in early January ahead of a main works beginning in the spring. This is taking place on the section between Weeping Cross and Queensville.

There will be temporary traffic management in place during the early works period. To minimise disruption, the investigations will be carried out on weeknights from 7.30pm to 6am.The street lighting replacements will be carried out during off-peak, restricted daytime hours.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:

The A34 project will bring considerable improvements along the A34 in Stafford and Cannock, with the main project getting under way in the spring.

In January investigative works will take place in Stafford ahead of this and street lighting replacement will be carried out. Unfortunately, temporary traffic management will be needed, though this will be done overnight and off-peak to minimise disruption.

We’d ask that people allow additional travel time if travelling on this section of road during the works period and apologise in advance for any inconvenience.”
