Pupils at Oakridge Primary School promoting active travel

Pupils at Oakridge Primary School in Stafford are supporting British Heart Foundation’s national campaign to raise awareness about making healthier travel choices to look after your heart.

Staffordshire County Council's ‘Love your journey’ initiative is also supporting the campaign.  The Council's School Active Travel Team has an important role in inspiring school pupils to choose active travel options such as walking, cycling, or scooting to school.

This month, the team has hosted interactive workshops in schools across Staffordshire to educate students on the benefits of active travel and how to keep hearts healthy.  As part of the campaign, students also shared their knowledge of improving heart health by writing their top tips on cut-out heart shapes, which were then displayed at the school.

Councillor David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said:

"We are delighted to support the British Heart Foundation’s national campaign through our ‘Love your journey’ initiative.

“By promoting active travel, we are not only instilling healthy habits in our young population but also contributing to the overall wellbeing of our communities.

“It’s fantastic to see students from Oakridge Primary School getting involved and sharing important messages about looking after your heart.”

The work is all part of the council’s commitment to promoting sustainable and healthy travel choices amongst children, contributing not only to their physical wellbeing but also to the reduction of carbon emissions around school areas.
