Alternative recycling site ready for use

The HWRC at Stourbridge is available to some South Staffordshire residents from specific post code areas.

Residents affected by the temporary closure of a household waste recycling centre (HWRC) can use an alternative from Friday 24 May.

Dudley Council’s HWRC in Birmingham Street, Stourbridge, DY8 1JE, will be available for South Staffordshire residents from specific postcode areas and must be booked in advance.

In other good news the Wombourne HWRC, which closed in March due to subsidence, will partially reopen from Wednesday, 29 May.

Simon Tagg, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Change, said:

This has been an unusual situation and we have been working hard to find alternatives.

Colleagues at Dudley Council have been very helpful to accept some Staffordshire residents and I am also delighted that from next Wednesday we will be able to accept certain types of waste again at the Wombourne site.”

Staffordshire residents can only use the Stourbridge site if they come from a qualifying postcode, with eligible addresses listed on the Wombourne recycling centre page.

Visits there must be booked in advance with 10 minute slots available through an online booking system. Vans, pick-ups, trailers, or trade waste will not be accepted.

At Wombourne, from 29 May the southern side of the site will open five days a week from Wednesdays-to-Sundays, between 10am and 5pm, to accept household, bulky, wood and garden waste.

Because of the limited space, access will be limited to a maximum of four cars at one time – and vans, trailers and trade waste will not be accepted.

Bilbrook HWRC is also available and can found at Pendeford Mill Lane, Codsall, WV8 1RR, and accepts most forms of household waste. Details can be found on the Bilbrook recycling centre page.
