Key Hixon footpath is new and improved, thanks to highways crews

Hixon Footpath NEWSROOM

The newly resurfaced Public Footpath No.1 in Hixon.

A key public footpath in the heart of Hixon has been completely resurfaced, following concerns raised by the parish council.

Public Footpath No. 1 is a very popular route that links St Peter’s Church in the centre of Hixon to St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Church Lane.

The path, which is regularly used by parishioners and families on the school run, had worn away over the years and large puddles formed when it rained.

Staffordshire County Council’s Rights of Way team met with Hixon Parish Council to discuss how improvements could be made to the footpath after residents shared their concerns.

Works to clear and then resurface the footpath, from the school to the church, were completed by highways crews on 24 May.

Catherine Mann, Staffordshire County Council’s assistant director for culture, rural and safer communities, said:

“Residents asked for improvements to be made to the footpath, which Hixon Parish Council then fed back to us. Our rights of way team and highways crews then worked together to make this happen.

“The transformation of the footpath is remarkable. I’m sure these improvements will be very beneficial to all walkers, particularly children walking to and from school within the village.”
