Roadworks sign on Buxton Road, Leek
A major highways improvements scheme in Leek will start on Monday 5 August.
The £360,000 scheme is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and is part of a wider £50 million investment in the county’s roads over the next three years.
The work on the A53 Buxton Road, is expected to take around six weeks to complete and will include resurfacing of the road, along with repairs and replacement of damaged kerbs and drainage.
To make sure the work can be carried out safely and to minimise disruption, a combination of temporary lane closures will be in operation along with a few overnight closures for the resurfacing. A signed diversion will be in place during the closures and access to businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.
Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways at Staffordshire County Council said:
“Good roads are vitally important for people and for our local economy, which is why we are investing more than £50 million in highways over the next three years.
“Buxton Road runs through Leek and is a well-used route for people travelling in the town and through it. I’m sure the resurfacing will be welcomed by all those who use the road.
“Crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum, which will include carrying out some of the works during the school holiday when less traffic is expected. I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while this important work takes place.”
